Accessibility and Appearance Settings

The Design tab lets you adjust the PlayAbility interface for readability and visual comfort. Changes apply immediately and are saved for future sessions.


Change the application language


  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Design.
  3. Under App language, choose the language you want to use.
  4. Review the page after the interface updates.


The application language and the voice-recognition language are separate. Change the speech model under Settings → General → Voice Recognition.


Choose light or dark appearance


  1. Under Design, find Default appearance.
  2. Select Default light or Default dark.
  3. Check text, buttons, and status indicators on several PlayAbility pages.


This chooses PlayAbility's default color scheme; it does not change the Windows appearance setting.


Choose an interface font


  1. Find Font in the Design section.
  2. Select one of the fonts available for the current language:
    • Lexend
    • OpenDyslexic
    • Atkinson Hyperlegible
    • Inter Tight
  4. Read a mapping name, settings description, and menu label to compare the result.


Lexend is the default. Font choices depend on the writing system used by the selected application language:


  • Latin-script languages offer all four choices.
  • Russian offers Atkinson Hyperlegible and Inter Tight.
  • Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Hindi use the system typeface because the bundled accessibility fonts do not cover those scripts.


When you change the application language, PlayAbility automatically chooses a supported font if the current one is not available.


Change interface text size


  1. Find Text size.
  2. Move the slider through Extra small, Smaller, Default, Large, Larger, or Largest.
  3. Check that tabs, buttons, and descriptions remain comfortable to read.
  4. Leave the slider at the preferred step.


PlayAbility's text-size setting builds on the operating system's text size and is separate from Windows display scaling.


Select an additional color theme


Additional themes are available to Pro Edition subscribers.


  1. Open Additional themes.
  2. Choose a theme from the list.
  3. Check contrast on the Profiles, Mapping, and Settings pages.
  4. Return to Default light or Default dark if the additional theme is not comfortable.


The additional-theme selector is disabled for a free account and displays a Pro Edition subscribers only badge.


Verify accessibility changes


  1. Leave Settings and open Profiles.
  2. Confirm that the selected language, font, and text size are still active.
  3. Open Mapping and check labels at the normal window size.
  4. Restart PlayAbility and confirm that the choices persist.


Troubleshooting


The font controls are missing


The selected application language may use a script that is not covered by the bundled fonts. PlayAbility uses the system typeface instead.


The selected font changed after changing language


PlayAbility replaces a font when it does not support the new language. Choose from the fonts now displayed for that language.


An additional theme cannot be selected


Additional themes require an active Pro Edition subscription. Default light and Default dark remain available to every account.


Text is still too small or too large


Adjust both PlayAbility's Text size and the operating system's accessibility or display settings. They scale independently and combine.


A theme has insufficient contrast


Return to Default light or Default dark. Color perception and display calibration vary, so use the theme that makes controls and status states easiest to distinguish.
