Create Your First Profile in PlayAbility

Choose a template, add triggers and outputs, test your controls, and activate your first PlayAbility profile. A profile stores the mappings that translate your face, head, voice, keyboard, mouse, gamepad, or adaptive-device inputs into game actions.

Open the Profiles section

Open PlayAbility and select Profiles in the left navigation. This page lists your saved profiles and the templates available for a new setup.

Select a template

Select + Add new profile, then choose the template closest to your goal. A simple template is easier to test and adjust than a complete layout.

Common starting points include:

  • Head Stick & Face Gestures for analog movement plus face-controlled buttons.
  • Racing Game for steering, acceleration, and braking.
  • Full Gamepad when you need every standard controller action.
  • Head Mouse + Smile Click for hands-free cursor control.
  • Blank Profile when you want to build every mapping yourself.

Give the profile a name that identifies the game or setup.

Add an input or trigger

Open a mapping and add the input that should start the action. PlayAbility supports face gestures, head movement, voice commands, keyboard keys, mouse input, gamepad controls, dwell, and compatible adaptive devices.

Start with an input that is comfortable and repeatable. For face or head input, make sure your webcam is selected and face detection is running.

Select an output

Choose what PlayAbility should send when the trigger activates. Outputs include gamepad buttons and sticks, keyboard keys, mouse movement and clicks, and PlayAbility settings actions.

For your first mapping, choose an output that is easy to recognize, such as the A button, Space, or a left mouse click.

Test the mapping

Use the mapping's input indicator or the appropriate tester to activate the trigger several times. Confirm that the intended output turns on, releases correctly, and does not fire when you are resting.

Test the profile in PlayAbility before opening a game. Add the next mapping only after the first one works reliably.

Activate the profile

Save your changes, then use the profile control in the top-right area of PlayAbility to activate the profile. Only the active profile sends its mappings to your game or application.

Open your game and check that it is using the same output type as the profile, such as gamepad, keyboard, or mouse.

Adjust sensitivity or thresholds

Open the trigger settings for a mapping when an input is too difficult to activate or fires by accident. Adjust sensitivity, activation thresholds, detection delays, or the action mode one setting at a time, then test again.

Choose movements that feel comfortable and avoid mappings that cause fatigue. Smaller, reliable inputs usually work better than exaggerated movements.

Resolve common first-profile problems

  • Nothing activates: confirm the profile is active and the correct camera, microphone, or device is selected.
  • Face or head input is missing: start face detection, improve lighting, and keep your face visible to the webcam.
  • The action stays pressed: check that the trigger returns to neutral and review its action mode.
  • The wrong output appears in the game: confirm the game is listening for the profile's gamepad, keyboard, or mouse output.
  • Inputs fire accidentally: raise the threshold or add a short detection delay.
  • A physical gamepad is ignored: verify that PlayAbility detects it and that forwarding is enabled when required.
